Christopher Curran, Independent Industrial Designer
Chicago, famous for its fine and diversified architecture, has sparked my creative talent in the many years I have lived here. This environment is the reason for my love of fine art, quality construction and creative design.
I started my higher education at Ripon College and earning a BA in Business Management with an interest in International Relations traveling abroad to discover the mysteries of other cultures. I opted to develop a hypothetical company and built a business around it from idea to funding for my senior theses. I wanted to develop a design build company which specialized in bridging the communications gap from the creative thought and consumer's ‘wants' to the business of manufacturing the product.
My senior thesis seemed fitting when I was visiting art schools around the country. I chose The Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where I received a BA in Industrial Design. My focus was to grasp a strong understanding on the practical and creative sides of the industry for example, the technology driven programs and the natural fine art skills.
I entered the workforce while still in school striving for experience and success. Opportunities to work for several companies in a variety of locations over time have given me a greater understanding of the industry. I enjoyed the multiplicity and challenge of working on numerous projects at once with an array of different people. I helped navigate the creative thinking process and personally defined the directions to real improvements in the quality of the products being produced.
My services include:
DESIGN STRATEGIST: Enable employees to multiply their creative thinking by collaborating in the spirit of design, revealing the mission of the product.
SKETCHING AND IDEATION: After obtaining project guidelines, I can produce a predetermined amount of concepts in a predetermined timeframe.
3D CONCEPTUAL MODELING: Surface modeling; orthographic views; section views. This phase can be utilized to enhance understanding and identification of problems in design before proceeding.
MODEL SERVICES: I can act as either a liaison between your company and a modeling shop, thus streamlining the process. I can also use an array of modeling techniques and materials to build the model myself, acting as sculptor, scientist, artist and engineer.
PRESENTATION SKILLS: Full presentation of the design process given to sales representatives, manufactures, or others deemed necessary, which would all be on black foam core.
At the beginning of an assignment a confidentiality agreement will be executed. Upon completion, all artwork will be documented on a DVD for record.
When the process is defined, quality improves geometrically. If you would like to take design on demand to the next level, I look forward to hearing from you.
